Blackberries are now ready. These are mainly PYO but we do usually have some ready picked each morning.
Fruit update 9th August 2015
Prolific plums are at their end. This week sees the Purple Pershores ready for picking – very tasty at present making them ideal for freezing and jam making. Opals and Czars will be available probably until the end of the week with another eater, the Swan Gage ready for picking now.
The first of the eating apples is now ready – Beauty of Bath. Crisp and tangy!
Grenadiers – the first of the cooking apples, are now ready.
Please note that the Woodpecker Cafe will not be open next Sunday. It will now open on Sundays only when we have an event on eg Plum Weekend.
Plums this week
We still have plenty of prolific plums but are now also picking the sweeter varieties – opals, czars and heron. All are available for PYO. We are usually open 9am – 6pm but will be closing at 5pm tomorrow (Tuesday).
On Saturday 8th August we are celebrating the first birthday of the Woodpecker Cafe by holding a fund raising event for Cancer Research UK. There will be children’s activities from 2 – 4pm. From 5pm you are invited to bring a picnic and listen to live music in the orchard. Pimm’s and cake will be available and we welcome donations to Cancer Research.
The plum harvest has begun!
Today we started to pick prolific plums and laxtons. Both are available ready picked – £1.98 kg (90p lb) and prolifics are also for pick your own £1.32 kg (60p lb).
Woodpecker Cafe is open on Saturday 9 am – 4pm and Sunday 10am – 4pm.
Plums are nearly ready!!
We are hoping to start plum picking next Saturday – August 1st. The first ones will be the prolifics – ideal for jam making and cooking, followed by czars – great for eating as well as culinary purposes.
We have refurbished our farm shop..we hope you will be impressed!!
From Sunday 2nd August the Woodpecker Cafe will be open on Sundays for the fruit season. Come and sample Sophie’s lovely cakes or treat yourself to a light lunch or an icecream.
We look forward to seeing you!
Apple Blossom
Although the plum blossom has almost finished, the apple blossom is in full bloom. However, it is only likely to be around for another week at the most so come along as soon as possible if you want to see it!
Plum blossom
So far so good! The weather this week has brought on the blossom. The bees have been busy and frosts have been minimal. Do come and have a look.
Blossom Time!!
Each day, more and more plum and damson blossom is appearing, largely the result of the lovely weather this week. The bees are busy pollinating it, liking the calm conditions. Why not come and wander round the orchard this weekend ( bringing wellies/boots if the weather changes).
Woodpecker Cafe is open on Saturday from 9am – 4pm with cakes and light lunches available for the whole family. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating as well as car parking.
We look forward to seeing you!!
Happy New Year!!
We would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and to give you early warning of the events we are planning in the orchard this year.
Plum Weekend – August 22nd and 23rd 2015
Apple Weekend – October 10th and 11th 2015
We also hope to offer tours round the orchard during blossom time. Watch this space for dates nearer the time as the timing of the blossom is a little unpredictable so early in the year.
Happy Christmas
We hope you have a very happy Christmas and thank you for your support during the year. May 2015 be a good year for you. Very best wishes,
Margaret and Paul
