August Bank Holiday Monday 2012

The end of the plum season is rapidly approaching here at Walsgrove. Although we have a wide range of plums available today, there are few left to pick, with only croppers and burbanks to come on.
Apples – Only Katy (an eater) and Grenadier (a cooker) are ready at present but we are hoping that Worcesters and Lambournes will be ripe by about the 8th September, with a range of other varieties following..

Plums 2012

This is proving to be a poor season for plums as pollination rates were low at blossom time – too cool and windy for the bees to get busy. However, we still have purple and yellow pershores and the Victorias are just ready. The fruit is good quality, just not much of it. Consequently, you won’t see us at the Plum Festival this year. If you are passing though, do call in and PYO.

Winter at Walsgrove

Well, we survived the snow!!

The orchard looked beautiful with temperatures dropping to -13 degrees and a seasonal covering of snow, but we are not sorry to see it looking green again.

Pruning has started on the apple trees and we look forward to see what the year brings!
