Tomorrow is Bank Holiday Monday and the Pershore Plum Festival. The weather forecast is not promising but we will be there!! If you are, come and say hello. Otherwise, keep dry in the Woodpecker Cafe which is open at Walsgrove from 10am until 4pm.

Apple weekend
Apple weekend at Walsgrove Farm and the Woodpecker Cafe. Saturday October 11th 8am – 5pm and Sunday October 12th 10am – 5pm.
Up to 50 varieties of apple to try.
Apple juicing.
Sunday 2 – 4pm – ask the experts – advice on buying fruit trees and pruning them.
Woodpecker Cafe will have a range of apple themed food as well as the normal menu.
Fruit update 21st August 2014
Plums are going quickly! We are still hoping to have a stall at Pershore Plum Fair on Bank Holiday Monday but will have to assess the situation over the next couple of days. The only Victorias left are high in the trees, as are the Kirke’s Blue. Damsons are ready for picking in some parts of the orchard and we are getting underway with apples. The varieties we have at present are –
Grenadier, James Grieve and Bramley – cookers
Katy, Greensleeves, Elstar, Fortune, Epicure and Tydeman’s Early
Fruit update 14th August 2014
We have started picking Victoria plums today – a little earlier than we expected. Katy apples and Worcester Tydeman’s (an early season’s version of the true Worcester apple), are also now available. Purple Pershore plums are still being picked as are the Yellow Pershores (yellow egg)
Sunday 9th Update
We have plenty of Purple Pershores ready. This is a really tasty plum ideal for eating but also for cooking and jam making. Today we started picking Belles which are large, juicy, sweet plums. We also are picking blackberries and runner beans. Come along and buy PYO or ready picked fruit. Don’t miss out on our newly opened cafe. It is open 10 – 4pm and if you check it out on Facebook, you will see it has excellent reviews.
Update 2nd August 2014
Prolifics now finished. There are just a few Opals left. Czars are plentiful. Swans are available and Purple Pershores are getting riper by the day with some ready to pick now. There are Beauty of Bath and Irish Peach apples ready.
Fruit update
Prolifics have nearly finished. We currently have Opals and Czars with Purple Pershores likely to be ready by the end of this week ( August 1st). The very early Beauty of Bath apple is now ready for picking.
Woodpecker Cafe opened successfully on Wednesday. Pop along if you can. It is open 10am – 4pm Tuesday to Friday and Sunday. It is open 8 am to 4pm on a Saturday.
Plum update
There are 3 varieties now available – Prolifics, Laxtons and Opals.
Prices for these early plums are – PYO 60p lb; ready picked 90p lb
As from Wednesday 23rd why not combine your picking with a visit to our cafe, which is open 10am – 4pm Tuesday to Friday and Sunday and 9am – 4pm on Saturday.
Plums are ready!!
Our earliest plums, the prolifics, will be ready to pick on Saturday (19th July). These small, round plums are ideal to use for jam or to freeze. They can of course also be eaten fresh!

Plums are nearly ready!
Prolifics, the early plums, are nearly ready, so watch this space. In the meantime, as a family,we are raising money for Cancer Research UK in advance of our participation in Relay for Life in Harrow in September. Our next event is this coming Sunday, July 13th at Old Pound Farm, Peopleton where you will be served afternoon tea whilst being entertained by the White Ladies Aston singers and two semi professional singers in the sheep shed!!
